“Kulta Kucha” or “Colta Lagoon” is located in the surroundings of Riobamba and is a very common tourist trip for the inhabitants of this city. The lagoon has a lot of history, because next to it the first Spanish foundation of the city of Quito took place, by Diego de Almagro, which due to the vicissitudes of history ended up being refounded in the current site at the foot of Pichincha. The lagoon is a destination in itself, for its green beauty, the ancestral culture of the area, and because if you have a little luck and skill, you may be able to take the classic photo of Chimborazo reflected in the water. Children can enjoy the playground, and the family can enjoy a relaxing walk or a boat ride around the lagoon. The landscape is beautiful with that very green grass and full of cattails, among which Andean ducks usually swim. If you make this visit, you cannot miss also going to the Balbanera Church, considered the first church built by the Spanish in Ecuador, in 1534.
