Description

The trail from Hacienda Releche to Laguna Amarilla in the Altar Volcano is one of the most classic and loved by Ecuadorian mountaineers and hikers. This trail is used to approach the Altar Volcano west face. The hike begins at Hacienda Releche, following a picturesque trail of more than 10 km which can be terribly muddy during some times of the year, to reach the beautiful Collanes Valley in the center of the enormous horseshoe shapped Altar caldera. Due to the distance traveled, it's customary to sleep in the Collanes Valley to climb the next day to the “Laguna Amarilla” lagoon.
