    GENERAL INFORMATION

We will go up with our transport to the Ilinizas Parking Lot, where the path that leads to the refuge begins. The hike is attractive, initially next to the ancient paper trees (Polylepis), and then continuing along a ridge of “páramo” and sand until reaching the Ilinizas Refuge. We’ll make a stop to hydrate and recover our strength. Then we’ll continue en route, between sandbanks and rocks, with spectacular views of South Iliniza and the surrounding mountains, climbing the slopes and rocks of Iliniza Norte until reaching its summit. At most, IV degree rock climbing difficulty, which our certified guides will help to reduce the risks to a minimum.

1 review for North Iliniza Summit

    1. Mike

Another hike I was fortunate to go with Xavier. We did this as a day hike, I think if I were to do this over again I would plan my days better and stay at the refuge just for a little more acclimatization. We were lucky to have a very clear day with beautiful views of both south and north Illiniza. He is very knowledgeable about the mountain, plants and history. After doing several guided trips with Xavier, you realize it’s a passion for him to guide and share his
country with you, not just a job. As with most other mountains, you will need a helmet for this hike as there is a fair amount of scrambling after reaching the saddle.
