    Description

We will leave Quito at 8:00 am from the Scala Shopping Center at Cumbayá, heading along the Interoceanic Hw towards Pifo and the Papallacta town.

    Virgen de Papallacta

If the weather permits and the mountain is clear, we will stop for a moment at Virgen de Papallacta (4000m) to take some photographs of the Antisana Volcano. This is the highest area where the road crosses the mountain range before beginning its descent towards the Ecuadorian Amazon. Many people stop here to lay flowers and pray to the Virgin of Papallacta, the Queen of this magical corner full of beauty and mystery.

    Oso Hiking Trail

Our hike will begin following the Oso Trail through the rugged moorland amidst great natural beauty. This area is known for being the habitat of the Spectacled Bear, the only Andean bear, which frequently visits the area to feed on achupallas. Along the way we will pass by Sucos Lagoon and Mentala Lagoon. If the weather is favorable, we will have spectacular views of the Antisana Volcano.

    Agua Hiking Trail

We will join the Agua Trail at Baños Lagoons, then continue along the Agua Trail upwards to pass by Anteojos Lagoons. We will then stop for lunch at Parcacocha Lagoon. The final section hiking on a good slope that will test our strength to get to Papallacta Antennas.

    1. Erica t

We reached out to Xavier about a tour the day before and got quick responses to confirm our hike. He was punctual on arrival time. He gave us a few options on hike routes. He expertly guided us, even through many areas that were poorly marked. He spoke English well and we communicated with no challenges. He hikes essentially every weekend so he is in great shape. His enthusiasm for the mountains and nature was contagious.
