Description

The Cayambe Coca National Park offers a large number of lagoons in the Papallacta area, Loreto Lagoon is one of the largest and most picturesque of them. Today, together with some other Papallacta lagoons, Loreto Lagoon helps provide drinking water to the city of Quito and its surroundings. It's not easy to hike there out of the ballasted car road, as the trails are usually barely recognizable and often very muddy; but those who dare to take the adventure have often managed to see wild animals such as the spectacled bear, or at least have enjoyed the extraordinary landscape of this wrinkled, and to a certain extent extreme, geography.
